Without doubt the largest of the British Down breeds, the Oxford Down originates, as its name suggests in Oxfordshire in central England and was developed as a terminal sire breed capable of siring fast growing, large carcassed lambs.

A distinctive breed due to its ‘top-knot’ of wool on its head, the Oxford Down is a polled breed with a bold, striking head of a uniform dark colour, with the same dark hair on the legs.
